Starting in September 2008 ![]() Canada's First Hydrogen Fuel Cell Assisted Sail Boat Under cooperative development
with AGO
Environmental Inc.
The success of the sailing of the "Sloop Jim D" has led us to begin marketing
the technologies that we developed in 2007 for the boat. Visit the AGO Environmental site to see the research progress. This year we are moving to a higher power level and automating the system. We are listing a few items which will be for sale. Custom systems will also be offered. 1000 Watt Fuel Cell Stack with Integrated Controller
![]() This new 1000 watt hydrogen fuel cell stack from Palcan is air cooled and also
uses an air pump to increase the pressure of the oxygen in the air supply. Such a system delivers continuous power with no dropout during the hydrogen exhaust cycle. It will come with an integrated humidifier, air pump, solenoid valves for hydrogen input and output control. It will be run by an integrated control system based on a single chip computer with LCD display showing the operating parameters such as current/voltage delivered, operating hours and operating temperatures. This system is very similar to the one used in the 2008 version of the hydrogen assisted sailboat. We are holding off sales until September to allow us to fully test the system. The price will be about $7500 and will not include the hydrogen supply. The fuel cell stack power system will be available to amateur and professional experimenters. People can pre-order to reserve systems by paying 25% in advance. This item will be for sale in September. Hydrogen Containers Hydrogen containers using either metal hydride technology or high pressure
tanks will be offered. The hydride containers will be products of Palcan as shown below. These will be available in September. ![]() Voltage Conversion Units condition the output of the fuel cell to match the requirements of the electric motors and batteries. We are currently purchasing systems and making the necessary modifications to match the demands of a hydrogen energy system. These items will be available in September. Stay tuned for technical details. ![]() Marine Outboard Engines We recommend the WisperXP shown below used directly with a Palcan Hydrogen
FC Stack. ![]() Hydrogen Safety Approved Components ![]() Hydrogen Sensor New standards have evolved in Canada during 2007 for the safe handling of
hydrogen. Sensors for the detection of hydrogen gas such as the one shown will be offered for sale, along with approved tubing, pressure regulators and other components. These will be available before September 2008. Stay tuned for more details. Manuals and Guides
We will be writing guidebooks and instruction manuals for hydrogen applications
based on our experience in the field. These will be available in September. Advanced Solar Voltaic Systems
We will be selecting a line of CIGS (Copper, Indium, Gallium and Selenium)
photovoltaic panels for sale. This new photovoltaic technology is in production this year and is expected to bring the price of photovoltaic systems to about 1/3 of the price of silicon based systems. ![]() Solar Generation of Hydrogen
We are working on a dockside generation system using solar panels mounted on
a boathouse to continuously build a supply of hydrogen for weekend cruises. Stay tuned to this site and products with pricing will be added during the year when their testing is complete. For information please email
